The Prophecy (1979)

Revisit
Format: DVD
Venue: Rivendell

The Good: Great kills. Prophecy manages a nice balance of graphic violence and reserved, implied violence. The scene where the kid in the sleeping bag gets iced is especially jaw-dropping. I also really dig the design of the monster.

The Bad: There is some silliness to be found. Why the hell is that dog being airlifted beneath a helicopter when it could have just ridden in the fucking helicopter?! Also, I don't recall my chemistry professor mentioning anything about mercury causing animals to mutate into giant monsters. It does have some pacing problems; reaching a lull where it is easy to lose interest.

The Weird: I don't think the "no animals were harmed in the making of this film" mantra really applies to Prophecy. How the hell could they have otherwise achieved the shot of the raccoon seizing?
